ECN confirms voter registration figures

The Electoral Commission of Namibia released final figures for the number of registered voters in Namibia on November 7 2014, following the General Registration of Voters (GRV) from January 15 to March 2 2014 and the Supplementary Registration of Voters from September 8 to 20 2014.
According to the ECN, a total of 1,241,194 voters registered for the November 28 elections. The figure includes 3,368 voters registered at Namibia’s foreign missions.

Party candidate lists confirmed

Following the submission of party lists on October 29, these are the candidates standing for election to the National Assembly on Nov 28. Each registered party had to submit a list of candidates numbering at least 32 and not more than 96. Some parties submitted names of people not registered as voters or who were under the age of 21 (the minimum age for an MP). The revised lists were issued by the Electoral Commission of Namibia on November 6 2014. The ECN has registered 16 parties for this election.

Election likely on November 28

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has earmarked Friday November 28 as the polling day for Namibia's next National Assembly (NA) and Presidential elections. In a media release marked as a 'tentative announcement', the ECN said the polling day would be proclaimed and published by President Hifikepunye. Pohamba in the Government Gazette on October 13 2014. This proclamation will take place in terms of the Electoral Act of 1992 as amended and not the new Electoral Bill which has been passed by parliament but is not yet law.

117,412 register during supplementary registration

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has announced that 117,412 people registered to vote during the supplementary voter registration period from September 8-20. In addition, 343 people registered at Namibian missions abroad. The date for the National Assembly and Presidential elections has not yet been confirmed by the President but is still expected to be at the end of November 2014.

Supplementary Registration of Voters 2009

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) will be conducting supplementary registration of voters in all the constituencies of the country from 17 to 30 September 2009. This is to ensure that all eligible persons are registered and in possession of voter cards in order to partake in the upcoming Presidential and National Assembly elections in November 2009. Registration points will be open as from 08h00 to 19h00 over the said period. These registration periods have been advertised in a newspaper insert published by the ECN.
