Election likely on November 28

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has earmarked Friday November 28 as the polling day for Namibia's next National Assembly (NA) and Presidential elections. In a media release marked as a 'tentative announcement', the ECN said the polling day would be proclaimed and published by President Hifikepunye. Pohamba in the Government Gazette on October 13 2014. This proclamation will take place in terms of the Electoral Act of 1992 as amended and not the new Electoral Bill which has been passed by parliament but is not yet law. It is unclear why the gazetting of the election date is delayed and why the new Electoral Bill is not yet law. If the November 28 date is confirmed, polling for Namibians abroad will take place on November 14 at Namibia's foreign missions. October 29 2014 is the expected nominations day for presidential candidates and party lists for the NA election.
